Initial Setup

If you would like a Websites for Artists website you will need to contact us to let us know. You can then either enter your text and images yourself, or we can do it for you. We can enter 5 text pages and up to 30 images for you. If you have more than this we charge £2 per extra image and £3 per extra page. Although if there are many more images there would be a discount on the extra charge. If we are entering your text and images etc you will need to send them to us electronically.

You should allow two weeks for us to enter the data for you, although it will normally be done much sooner than this. Once the website is ready we will let you know. You will then be able to take over control of your website and update it as you wish in the future. If you ever have any queries we will still be here to provide support and advice.

PAGE TYPES

There are two types of page you can have on your website:

1. Gallery page - This contains up to 12 images

2. Text Page (or information Page) - This contains unlimited lines of text and up to 3 images. Typical information pages include a Home Page, Biography page and Contents page. The grey table on the Examples page lists which pages are usually set up with a website, and you can also have additional text pages if you need. From this page you can also see the different layout styles. Please let us know which you would like. There are also examples of some websites we have set up.

TEXT PAGES

The next stage would be for you to let us know what text pages you would like, and what text you would like on each of these pages. You can have between 0 and 3 images on each of your text pages. So would need to decide which images you would like, and if you would like them in any particular order. (If you do not specify this we can decide for you).

GALLERY PAGES

If you have more than 12 images for your gallery then you will need to decide on how you would like to group each gallery page and what title you would like for each page. If you would like the images on the pages in a particular order then let us know. If you do not specify an order, or a grouping, we can just order and group them in a way that we feel looks good.

DOMAIN NAME

You will need to choose a domain name (e.g. www.yourname.co.uk). Many artists choose their own name. If this is not available, then their own name followed by art is another popular choice. We can check to see if the name you want is available. If you already have a domain, we can transfer this over to Websitesforartists.

PAYMENT

If you decide to go ahead, please let us know and we will give you the payment details.

HOW TO SEND THE TEXT AND IMAGES

These would need to be sent electronically. All the information should be sent together on the same day. Although, if necessary, it can be split into more than one email. Images should ideally be 450 pixels high. If they are a bit higher than this that is OK, but not less than this, because this is the size they are when displayed on the website, and they may look blurry if they are less than 450 pixels high. We have a free utility for resizing images which is good at resizing many images in one go. (See Resizing Images). The text is best sent as a Word document, or as Rich Text Format.

Because our emailbox has a size limit, if the total size of your emails exceeds 10MB, it would be better to send your text and images to us in the post on a CD,. If you are sending them on a CD, then it does not matter if the images are not resized.

FUTURE UPDATES

The prices we charge for future updates are on our Prices page. However, most artists prefer to make the updates themselves. You can experiment with this now under the free 14 trial, or may prefer to wait until we have loaded your images and text for you. The software is quite straightforward to use, and if you have any queries whilst using it, we are here to give advice. There is no limit to the number of updates you can make yourself.
